Episode 4: Salwa

1/4/26

You know the little accents, quirks and things you know people by, or notice in them? It’s what I was going for here, the context is Salwa making baba ganoush yes, but the point of it’s in the former. This video’s a moving portrait of how I see a person like Salwa and her family. They gave me a couple hours over a couple days to piece something together and more welcoming they couldn’t have been.

I’ve known Sal since my days thinking i was cool, trespassing train stations, trying to snap cool photos that’d express something I couldn’t quite get a grip on; in any case now I feel some traction with this. I talk to creative friends about the direction and motives of people pursuing journeys similar. There are many I admire but I still feel detached simultaneously and it isn’t from a place of hate either.

“I just wanna feel something real befpore i die”
(Highway to the Sun by Ray LaMontagne) You gotta listen to it to know what i’m waffling on about here.

It always feels like im reaching for context and knowledge whilst i drown in the river of information we’re stuck in, know what i mean? I cant be fucked with relatability memes and monetising a brand when it didn’t even need to be a brand in the first place.

Just do shit because you like it.
